March International Women's Day Lunch

MEMBERS- You must be logged in to the website to see and listen to the podcast above!

We celebrated the 100 years of International Women's Day with some style and fun thanks to the events management students from the Northern Beaches College thanks to the Northern Sydney Institute.

These students were into their 5th week of their training and got some hands on experience in setting up for an event- thank you to NSW TAFE, The Women's Strategy Unit, the head teachers of the Events Management section and the hospitality unit as well as the caretakers of the Gawura Aboriginal Centre who lent us their beautiful centre for the function for use of this venue.

Our guest speaker Jan Burnes who has a wealth of knowledge and experience had a powerful message for small business owners- to welcome change and not be frightened of it. Jan related her experiences of sailing around the world with her family and 2 cats and realised the experiences can be related to the changes and preparations required her her trip.

We also enjoyed the vegetarian paella especially prepared for us by a former Young Entrepreneur participant from last year Miguel (or Michael as I have always called him) Cuevas from That Spanish Rice. Even Michael experienced some helping hands from the students who assisted him with the preparation of our lunch.

We raised our champagne glasses to celebrate and ackowledge the 100 years of women and all the attendees were given IWD ribbons to support UNIFEM

Our glorious raffle prizes donated by so many of our attendees were raising funds for the local women's crisis centre for single parents- the Manly Warringah Women's Resource Centre. We raise $570.00 on the day.

Our thanks goes to Pregnancy Concerns, GAP Studios, Basic Bananas, Clarity Matters, Ageing Disgracefully, Inronstone Group, Connecting Kids, The Ambaa Tree & Camille Williams Kinesiology for the fantastic donations.
